These settings allow you to decide which thumbnails are regenerated, how existing thumbnails are handled, and when regeneration should be applied, giving you precise control over the re-generation process.

Thumbnail Re-generation Settings
Access Thumbnail Re-generation Settings
- 1. Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- 2. In the left-hand menu, click CompressX.
- 3. From the CompressX submenu, select Toolkit.
- 4. Access the Thumbnail Regeneration settings by clicking the Configure button associated with the Thumbnail Regeneration feature.
You will see four main sections:
- 1. Image Thumbnail Sizes
- 2. Cleanup Options
- 3. Image Period for Thumbnails Regeneration
- 4. Processing Options
Image Thumbnail Sizes
This section lists all registered thumbnail sizes on your site.
- 1. Size Name
The name of the thumbnail size (e.g.,thumbnail,medium,large, or custom sizes). - 2. Dimensions
The width × height of the thumbnail size. - 3. Status
Indicates whether the size is newly added. - 4. Action
Displays available actions for the size (if applicable).
Adding a New Thumbnail Size
- 1. Click Add New Size.
- 2. Define the name and dimensions of the new thumbnail size.
- 3. Newly added sizes will be marked as New and included in regeneration if selected.
Cleanup Options
Use this section to remove unnecessary thumbnails and metadata during regeneration.
- 1. Remove unused thumbnails + metadata
Deletes thumbnails that are no longer referenced by your site. - 2. Remove orphan thumbnails + metadata
Removes thumbnails that exist on disk but are not linked to any original image.
Recommendation
Enable these options to reduce disk usage and keep the media library clean.

Image Period for Thumbnails Regeneration
This section allows you to limit regeneration to images uploaded within a specific time range.
How to Configure
- 1. Set a Start Date to define the earliest image upload date.
- 2. Set an End Date to define the latest image upload date.

Helpful for large sites where regenerating all thumbnails at once may impact server performance.

Processing Options
Choose how thumbnails should be regenerated.
- 1. Only generate thumbnails for the New Sizes
Regenerates thumbnails only for newly added sizes.

You have added new thumbnail sizes and want to avoid regenerating existing ones.

- 2. Regenerate all thumbnails for all sizes
Rebuilds thumbnails for every registered size.

Starting the Regeneration Process
- 1. Review all selected options.
- 2. Click Start Bulk Processing.
- 3. CompressX will regenerate thumbnails based on your configuration.

The process runs in bulk and may take time depending on the number of images.

Recommendations
1. Use date range filtering on large sites to reduce server load.
2. Regenerate only new sizes whenever possible.
3. Enable cleanup options periodically to remove unused files.
4. Perform thumbnail regeneration during low-traffic periods.
