Image Optimization: Others Settings

Jan 1, 2026 | Docs

This documentation covers specialized settings for processing specific thumbnail sizes, customizing your Media Library view, and safely removing generated WebP or AVIF files without affecting your original uploads. These advanced options help you maintain full control over your image optimization.

Thumbnail Sizes to Process

This setting allows you to select exactly which image sizes CompressX should optimize. These selections apply to both new uploads and bulk processing.

Select Thumbnail Sizes to Process

Options

  • Standard Sizes
The original image and default WordPress sizes including Thumbnail (150×150), Medium (300×300), and Large (1024×1024).
  • Custom Sizes
Sizes generated by your theme or active plugins, e.g., 1536×1536 (1536×1536), 2048×2048 (2048×2048).
Note
If you install a new theme or plugin that generates new image sizes, they will appear in this list. To optimize these newly created sizes for existing images, you will need to run the Bulk Processing function again.

Media Library Display Options

Choose which optimization statistics and quick-action buttons to display directly within your WordPress Media Library list view. This provides at-a-glance information for each image.

Select Media Library Display Options

Options

  • Thumbnails Deleted
Displays the count of unused thumbnails that have been removed to save space (e.g., 7 thumbnails).
  • Disk Saved
Shows the total amount of storage space saved through optimization (e.g., 4.56 MB).
  • Watermark Status
Indicates whether a watermark is currently active on the image (e.g., Applied).
  • Delete/Restore thumbnails
Adds a button to manually delete or restore thumbnails of the image directly from the media library.
  • Watermark/Restore Watermark
Adds a button to apply or remove watermarks for individual images without leaving the list view.

Remove Cache-Control “private” from .htaccess

Remove the “private” cache-control header that CompressX adds to the /wp-content/.htaccess file. The header is intended to prevent certain conflicts, but it can sometimes interfere with CDN caching.

Remove Cache Control Private Header

Tip
If you notice that your site (or specific images) is not being cached by Cloudflare or other edge caching services, try checking this option to remove the restriction.

Delete Images Generated by CompressX

This is a cleanup tool used to permanently remove all next-gen formats generated by CompressX and reset your optimization state.

It permanently removes all WebP and AVIF files, as well as the associated database records created by CompressX.

To perform the deletion, you must type the word DELETE into the confirmation field, then click the Delete button.

Note
Your original images are never affected. You can safely use this option if you wish to start over or change your optimization formats, as you can always regenerate the WebP/AVIF versions later.
