Free vs Pro – Key Features

Jan 1, 2026 | Docs

CompressX is fully usable in the free version.
The Pro version is designed for users who need more control, smarter decisions, and better scalability.

Below are the key differences that matter in real usage:

1. Image Quality Preset: General vs Smart
2. Responsive Breakpoint Sizes (Fixed vs Mobile-Friendly)
3. Bulk Optimization (Front-end vs Background)

1. General vs Smart Image Quality Preset

Image Quality Presets define how compression quality is applied across images.

Image Quality Presets

Free: General Image Quality Preset

The free version applies a single, consistent quality level across all images.

  • Simple and predictable
  • Safe for most websites
  • No additional decisions required

This approach works well for:

  • Blogs
  • Content websites
  • Small to medium sites with mixed images
Tip
This approach works well for most use cases, it prioritizes visual safety and avoids over-compression.
but applies the same quality decision to all images.

Smart Image Quality Preset

The Pro version introduces Smart Image Quality Presets, which adjust compression levels based on image size.
Instead of treating all images the same:

  • Larger images can be compressed more aggressively
  • Smaller images are preserved with higher visual quality

This allows CompressX to:

  • Improve loading speed
  • Save more disk space
  • Maintain visual clarity where it matters

Smart presets are ideal for:

  • Image-heavy websites
  • Performance-focused optimization
  • Users who want better results without manual tuning
Tip
Smart presets do not increase risk.
They simply apply different quality decisions where appropriate.

2. Advanced Responsive Breakpoint Sizes (coming soon)

Responsive Breakpoint Sizes control which image sizes are delivered to different screen widths.
This helps avoid sending oversized images to small screens and improves loading performance.
The free version uses fixed desktop-oriented breakpoints, while the Pro version adds mobile-friendly options.
Default values work well in most cases and usually do not need adjustment.

Responsive Breakpoint Sizes

Free: Fixed Desktop-Oriented Breakpoints

The free version uses a fixed set of three desktop-oriented breakpoint sizes to deliver images.
These breakpoints are designed to cover the most common layout scenarios and work well for most websites without any adjustment.

Pro: Advanced Responsive & Mobile-Friendly Breakpoints

The Pro version unlocks advanced responsive breakpoint sizes, designed for modern, mobile-first websites.
With advanced breakpoints, CompressX can:

  • Generate image sizes optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop
  • Avoid delivering oversized images to small screens
  • Improve performance on mobile devices

This feature is especially valuable when:

  • Mobile traffic is dominant
  • Images are displayed at many different sizes
  • Performance optimization is a priority
Tip
Default breakpoint values are conservative.
Most users do not need to adjust them unless they have specific goals.

3. Background Bulk Optimization

Free: Front-End Bulk Optimization

In the free version, bulk optimization runs in the current browser session.

  • Processing starts on the Bulk Optimization page
  • Keep the page open while optimization is running
  • If you close or reload the page, processing may stop

This approach works well for:

  • Small to medium image libraries
  • One-time optimization runs
  • Users who prefer a simple, manual workflow

Pro: Scheduled Background Bulk Optimization

The Pro version adds scheduled background bulk optimization. Once started, processing is handled by the server and continues even if you close the Bulk Optimization page.

Background Bulk Optimization

Run Immediately:
This option starts background optimization as soon as you launch bulk processing.

  • Images are processed continuously in the background
  • Suitable when immediate optimization is needed
  • May use more server resources during peak traffic

Run on a Schedule
This option runs background optimization only within a specified time window.

  • Optimization starts and stops automatically based on the schedule
  • Ideal for off-peak hours (e.g. overnight)
  • Helps reduce performance impact on live websites

Scheduled optimization is recommended for:

  • High-traffic websites
  • Shared hosting environments
  • Large media libraries
Note
The free version of CompressX is fully functional and safe for most websites.
CompressX Pro is not required —
it is built for users who want more intelligent optimization and better control at scale.
